Graphics quality is suitable for any internal business need, and, depending on how much of a perfectionist you are, you may consider it good enough for things such as trifold brochures. And all but one of the fonts are easily readable at 8 points, with only one heavily stylized font with thick strokes needing 20 points. Even so, unless you have an unusual need for small font sizes, the printer will do fine with any text you're likely to throw at it.Īll of the fonts in our test suite that are suitable for standard business documents passed the easy readability threshold, with well-formed characters, at 6 points. No fonts qualified as easily readable at 4 points in our tests and fewer than half qualified at 5 points. The 3110cn's output quality is in the typical range for a color laser, though on the low side of that range for text. To get a significantly faster color laser, you have to pay twice as much, for the Lexmark C534dn, which took 8:26. The less-expensive OKI Printing Solutions C3400n, for example, nearly ties it at 10:44 (although the OKI printer falls far short of the 3110cn in terms of output quality, particularly for photos). I timed it on our business applications suite at a total 10 minutes 23 seconds (using QualityLogic's hardware and software, That's faster than most of the printers in the 3110cn's price range, but not significantly faster than all of them. The printer's performance is best described as good but well short of impressive.
Simply find a spot for the printer, remove the packing materials, install the cartridges, load paper, connect the power cord and cable, and run the automated installation routine. Setup for a network connection is typical as well, except that Dell ships the toner cartridges in sealed bags, instead of shipping them in place. At 52.9 pounds-heavy enough that you'll probably want help moving it into place-and 18.5 by 15.8 by 19.1 inches (HWD), the 3110cn's size and weight are typical for a low-cost color laser.
